National Peace Jubilee Coliseum opens.

Architect: William Preston. The temporary structure is built on the site of today’s Copley Plaza Hotel (Hancock Tower-Bahne) in Copley Square. The largest building in the U.S. at the time, the wooden structure can accommodate 50,000 people, and is built for the National Peace Jubilee (which begins on this date) and . The building is destroyed by a storm later in 1869.*
